From April 2026, Arun District Council will start collecting your food waste every week, as required by law. At the same time, general waste collections will change to every two weeks.
To help standardise collections, the council will be providing every household with a new 180-litre black wheeled bin for general waste - free of charge. Once your new bin arrives, you can start using it straight away or store it until alternate weekly collections begin.
What to expect
You’ll get a new 180-litre wheeled black general waste bin in early 2026 - see table below. For many households this will mean no more loose black bags of rubbish on the street!
Flats, communal properties and properties that already have different collection arrangements
Don’t worry - your general waste and food waste bins will be dealt with separately and you will be contacted prior to collections starting.
